Seniors to face Grand Rapids/Greenway on farewell festivity night

Huskies officials announced today that the team will celebrate senior night on Saturday, January 28th against the Grand Rapids/Greenway Lightning at the Andover Community Center.

The annual Senior Night festivities celebrate the high school careers of the team's senior class and provide an opportunity for the players to publicly thank their parents and loved ones for the support they have received throughout their youth hockey playing days.

The Senior Night festivities were originally scheduled for February 4th against Rum River rival Anoka.  The Tornadoes, currently ranked 3rd in Class AA, will be a handful for the young Huskies and adding the emotion of a heartfelt farewell to the beloved senior leaders was more than the coaching staff wanted to take on at this point in the season.  "You never know how the kids will respond" said head coach Ben Monahan.  "We want to ensure this senior class gets the recognition they deserve for all of their contributions to our program and have our minds in the proper place when we take on our biggest rival, who just happens to arguably be the top team in the entire state."

The Grand Rapids/Greenway Lightning will also be a test for the Huskies.  The Lightning are currently ranked 18th in Class AA, just ahead of the 19th ranked Huskies. They are led by senior forward Molly Illikainen with 13 goals, 12 assists for 25 points in 11 games.  Illikainen is a member of the US Women's National 18U team currently competing in the Czech Republic.  The team is currently 3-0 and has advanced to the semi-final game on Friday, January 6.
